In the early 2000s, Italian automotive manufacturers began to require reliable automatic transmissions to compete with foreign counterparts. As a result of substantial investments, the Italo-Austrian company Selectra was established, with its Italian headquarters and production connections in Austria. The company specializes in various fields, ranging from automotive mechanics to the production of elevator systems and gate motors.


The main transmissions produced include:

- Single-clutch automatic transmission;

- Advanced automatic transmission;

- Dual-clutch transmission.


The designations have varied over the years.

In 2016, the company decides to discontinue the production of automotive transmissions starting from 2017. The production facility and all related design capabilities are acquired by the GearTronic group.

The company was founded in the 1990s in Germany with the aim of developing and manufacturing automatic transmissions for various types of vehicles.


Over the years, the company has produced and developed the following transmissions:

- EcoTronic: single-clutch automatic transmission;

- W-Tronic: automatic transmissions for commercial vehicles (trucks, buses, high-displacement utility vehicles);

- AdvanceTronic: advanced automatic transmission;

- TwinTronic: dual-clutch transmission (top of the range).


Experimental transmissions:

- Q-Tronic: direct engagement transmission;

- SevenTronic (or RealTronic): 7-speed manual transmission.


Between late 2016 and early 2017, the company acquires the facilities and expertise of the Selectra group.
